Yotta's IP Warranty Auditor utility helps 3rd Party Intellectual property ('IP') suppliers, Foundries, Fabless companies and Systems OEMs find warranty violations before they cause significant losses in manufacturing or in the field. It uses Yotta's Smart Signature technology. The technology peers into a design flow looking for IP under warranty which should not have been modified. As an example, if a designer "tweaks" a compiled block in an attempt to improve performance, a quick scan using Yotta's Warranty Auditor technology can detect and report the change. Compiled IP blocks should not be modified without extensive testing and support or a waiver from the owner of the IP.
The Warranty Auditor works similarly to Yotta's Hard IP Royalty Auditor. The difference being the reported information. Rather than reporting all detected instances of a Supplier's IP, Yotta's Warranty Auditor reports only those instances that have materially changed. It can detect unauthorized changes to cell-, block-, or chip-level layouts. It reports them with the cell name, layer, and (x,y) coordinates. Both geometric and non-geometric (e.g. text or property) differences are reported.
Yotta's technology works by taking a smart signature snapshot of the IP just after being compiled. The signatures are stored in Yotta's Smart Signature Master Database. This database is about 1/1000th the size of the IP. The audit can be done as a routine check within a design workflow. It can be carried on a laptop to an audit site without the IP being exposed. Yotta's Warranty Auditor takes a second signature snapshot of the target file containing the warranted IP. It runs a comparison. It reports all of an owner's IP that had been modified. The project team and/or owner of the IP can review and make informed decisions about what to do next.
The IP Warranty Auditor can help everyone in the fabless to foundry ecosystem avoid the consequences of unauthorized modification of IP. The sooner they're detected, the lower the costs and risks while addressing the problem.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) WARRANTY AUDITOR*
There have been times where Integrated circuit designers believe they must modify compiled blocks of warranted IP. They have done so without authorization which voids the warranty. When this has happened, the modifications have continued into production without detection. There have been instances where the modification had caused the design to fail in production. Decisions like this can be costly to all involved. A routine audit of a design can detect the modifications which only takes minutes to do.
